Good Friday

God’s love in perfection

We will be having Holy Communion and Retired Pastor William Barnard Jones (BJ) is preaching:

Good Friday. It's a strange title for a day connected to so much suffering. What can we learn from the real meaning of Good Friday for us?

EASTER SUNDAY

Against all odds: Hope!

When Mary Magdalene made her way to the tomb early on Easter morning, she was devastated. What she saw with her own eyes on Golgotha two days before must have been devastating for her.

And yet she set off before dawn. Nobody yet knew what had happened during the night, the "breaking news" had not yet made the rounds. She went anyway. After all, life had to go on. We don't know what she expected, but we do know what she found.

We also don't know what exactly happened on the night that we have since called the Easter Vigil. None of the four Gospels give us an account of it. But we do know that the tomb was empty. We celebrate this event every Sunday, especially on Easter Sunday.

I would like to invite you to do so.

I will preach the sermon (on John 20: 1-18) in two languages so that both Eimsbüttel congregations can hear and hopefully understand it without difficulty.

I would like to remind you of our invitation to our joint Easter breakfast at 10.00 a.m.

And I would like to remind you that the clocks will be changed back to summertime on Sunday morning.

I am looking forward to once again repeating the Easterly proclamation: „He is risen!“

A prayer for Ukraine

Holy and Gracious God
We pray for the people of the Ukraine and the people of Russia; for their countries and their leaders.
We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear.
We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose life and life in its fullness for all people.
We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace.
We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ.
Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine.
And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son.
Lord have mercy.
Amen

The Ukraine war: how can we help?

We are all devastated by the news coming from the Ukraine and feel helpless in the face of such a disaster. Well-established relief organisations are coordinating their efforts to provide the right aid and assistance as, where and when it is needed. The German Methodist Church (EmK) has its own relief organisation that is already involved in the activities.

If you want to help, please send your donations to the EmK World Mission which is working with other relief organisations to coordinate the best possible use of contributions that are being made to help the situation in the Ukraine. Donations can be made by bank transfer to the account of the EmK Weltmission as follows:

EmK-Weltmission: IBAN: DE65 5206 0410 0000 4017 73 (BIC: GENODEF1EK1)
Please state “Ukraine” as the reason for payment.

Kids’ Church

Children are always welcome to be a part of our service. We offer a Sunday school where kids get together to sing, learn about the Bible, and do fun games and activities. All ages are welcome.

Fellowship and Small Groups

One of our traditions at HIC is to get together after service and share coffee and some snacks to catch up. Community means worship and prayer together, but it also means getting to know each other and just talk to each other about what’s going on. Stay online after the service and get connected. We have informal Tea@5 Zoom chats on Tuesday and Thursday and small group bible studies on Tuesdays and Sundays.
